When to Wear Bow Ties:
Bow Ties are almost exclusively worn for formal black tie events. After all, the bow tie is the most formal piece of men’s neckwear. Below is some helpful information on how to wear your bow ties for what occasion:
Formal Attire
The solid color black bow tie is the preferred choice in combination with a black tuxedo and a white pocket square. White bow ties are worn on occasion for black tie events occurring during the day and in warm weather.
Semi-Formal Attire
Bow Ties as well as neckties are well suited. If you choose to wear a bow tie, pick a slightly less formal color. If the event is during the day, light colored bow ties are quite popular such as light pink, silver, and light blues. If you choose to wear neckties instead, pick formal solid color neckties with satin-shine.
Business Attire
Bow Ties are rarely worn in business these days, and if done, most common on older, more mature gentlemen. Larger bow ties (larger than 2.5”) are best suited. Pick non-solid color bow ties such as striped bow ties, bow ties with polka dots or other fine patterns.
Bow Ties on Kids:
Bow Ties for Kids are more common than neckties. Clip-on bow ties are most popular. Common are playful bow ties with motives of little cartoon figures and animals.
